Currently, Director of Independent Living, Single Room Occupancy
(SRO) programs for Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans responsible
for the 151 residents, 6 staff and 2 building in downtown New
Orleans. El Cabrel oversees all communications, administrative,
fiscal and operational functions to enhance program efficiencies
and outcomes.
Served as the 2-1-1 Statewide Coordinator for the Louisiana Association
of United Ways. His primary objective was to implement a seamless
and efficient community based 2-1-1 system for the state. El Cabrel
coordinated the flow of information, resources and strategic development
between regional 2-1-1 partners, governmental bodies, state association
non-profits, and private industries.
Prior to his current position, he implemented, directed and assisted
to raise more than 5 million dollars for a three-year budget to
support United Way 2-1-1 for Southeastern Michigan. Under his
leadership, the regional 2-1-1 system was launched several months
ahead of schedule. 2-1-1 for Southeastern Michigan services Wayne,
Oakland, and Macomb counties with six agency partners that provided
comprehensive information, referral and advocacy for 4.1 million
residents.
El Cabrel has a long history serving the 2-1-1 system. He was
instrumental in the creation of 2-1-1 for the greater Orlando,
FL area, where he worked as the Vice-President of 2-1-1 Community
Resources. During this time, he played a pivotal role in the dissemination
and tracking of resources after the hurricanes of 2004.
Prior to that El Cabrel worked as the 2-1-1 Director for the
United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta, the nation’s first 2-1-1
call center. El Cabrel has more 12 years of experience working
in the industry of providing community information and referral
services.
